Matthew Marsh

Age: Legend has it the digits of his age are ‘3’ and ‘5’. Nobody knows the order.

Real Life:

Matthew works in the business of motor sport sponsorship and is one of the presenters of FOX Sports Asia’s coverage of Formula 1. Highlights of his racing career include being crowned champion of the 2004 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, class victory in the Nürburging 24-hours (2008, 2013), an FIA World Championship point scored with eighth place in the World Touring Car Championship race at the Macau Grand Prix (2008) and two appearances in the Le Mans 24 hours (2007, 2009).

Bio

Mario Andretti said: “If everything seems under control you’re not going fast enough.” This gives Matthew Marsh encouragement since when he is at the wheel of the simulator things are far from being under control. Confusingly the 52-year old is also not fast. The Hong Kong-based Briton takes solace in the saying that the, ‘The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong,’ But, when no one’s looking, that’s where he places his bets. Due to an administrative error Matthew was accepted into the Laundry House team. He’s grateful that the colonial subjects running the show know their place and haven’t asked him to leave.

Sim Experience

  • 1991 Microprose Grand Prix (keyboard)

  • 2004 rFactor (pedal and wheels)

  • 2020 Assetto Corsa Competizione (more pedals, GPUs, and so on…)

    In GTWC Asia Esports:

    Round 1: Qualified 32nd, finished 7th mostly due to the misfortune of others;

    Round 2: Qualified and finished P13. Ran 2nd for sometime before falling foul of impatience (lapping a backmarker) and losing concentration (whilst chatting to teammate Evan Chen on Discord). Did execute perfectly the mandatory pit stop - and the discretionary drive-through penalty (awarded for careless parking).
